T-RackS 3 Master Class clinics have been taught by industry professionals such as Billy Morrison, bassist for The Cult / guitarist for Camp Freddy, Bobby Owsinski, author of The Mastering Engineers Handbook, Mark Vinten, engineer for Lil' Jon, Mike Rose, producer/songwriter for Kylie Minogue, Gary Noble, engineer for Estelle, The Fugees and Amy Winehouse, and Tedd T., Twilight Movie Soundtrack Producer. Many top producers and engineers in the industry use T-RackS 3, and even teach T-RackS Master Class clinics. This was back when Waves still only had the C1 and Q10 to offer and Universal Audio was still defunct. In fact, T-RackS was the first of its kind, modeled on a Calrec UA-8000 "Polar" console. Most likely, you tried the original T-RackS24 which was highly acclaimed and state of the art modeling technology for its day. From your description, it sounds like you haven't even listened to these newer T-RackS 3 models. If you don't have a vintage Fairchild 670, Pultec EQ-1P, LA2A, and 1176LN you really can't compare them. We've looked at it on other occasions as well.Įvery few years we run through a huge collection of the "latest, much improved, omg you-can't-hear-the-difference-from-the-real-thing plugins" to test them out, and compare against the analog and digital we already use (Manley, API, Cranesong, Millenia, Weiss, etc etc)Thor, these are specific models of vintage gear. It was an eye opening experience for both of us -). Actually a client brought it in once and wanted to try it out in the room, just for kicks. No, I have not tried any of their newer plugs.

I've only been doing this full time for about 10 years, but this is pretty much the same thing I hear from the really experienced engineers way up at the top. Getting those things nailed will both give you a better result if you do decide to go to mastering (hopefully with a professional!), and a result that stands well on it's own should you not. 90% of a great result is in the tracking and mixing (not to mention performance, writing, arranging and everything else before you even think about recording anything). Not a big deal in the great scheme of things. Mastering is the final detailing, polish, wax, tuning and prep before it goes to the customer. Your mix is a finished car from the factory with 4 wheels, paint, engine, etc. This isn't a car with 3 wheels, and the 4th is mastering. Mastering isn't about loud - you can (and should, up to a point) do that in the mix (and it's easier to do there). If you "want to make your tracks sound better", you would IMHO be a lot better served - and end up with a much better result - spending the time you spend "mastering" crafting and honing your mix instead. If you're planning on a commercial release, I would definitely recommend it both from a quality assurance and final polish/best possible translation perspective, but it doesn't mean something is missing if you haven't "done mastering" on your "trax" It's not like your music isn't done if it hasn't been mastered.

don't expect the Sound you will get by paying for a professional Mastering Engineer that uses expensive Hardware and knows what he is doing.but TRacks3 and Ozone-5 are great pieces of Software for Homestudios and producers that want to make their Tracks sound better.A suggestion, take it for what you will, but mastering is not necessary.
Both are great Suites for producers that want to do some Mastering on their own material without having to spend thousands of Dollars on Hardware.don't expect the Sound you will get by paying for a professional Mastering Engineer that uses expensive Hardware and knows what he is doing.but TRacks3 and Ozone-5 are great pieces of Software for Homestudios and producers that want to make their Tracks sound better. It sounds more Hifi-Digital ( even through it offers Analog modes ) but offers different tools like a Exciter or a Stereo Imager.Ozone is a complete Mastering Suite and IK Multimedia's TRacks3 offers Equalization and Compression based on classic's like the Fairchild Compressor. These two combined with the other Eq's and Compressors of the original TRacks3 and you have eveything you need in great quality to Master anything people can throw at you.Izotope Ozone is a big "peoples favorite" of the moment but is a complete different thing. IK Multimedia could sell these probably for way more then then what they are asking for. The Black 76 and the White 2A both are very good sounding and for the price I don't see why anybody could complain.you instantly have two great dynamic Processors with destinctive sound and easy-to-use Interface.
